Kansas Liberty: 15 October 2009
Moran’s campaign reported to have received almost $180,000 more than Tiahrt in the third quarter.
Candidate fundraising reports for third financial quarter
Some of the third financial quarter reports for congressional candidates came out today. The reports are collected by the Federal Election Commission and then posted online and include campaign finances collected up to Sept. 30.
Though the FEC does not have a complete list of campaign finances available at this time, some Kansas candidates have already announced how much they have raised.
First District Republican Rep. Jerry Moran reported to have raised a total of $512,278 in the third quarter for his Senate candidacy, with a total cash-on-hand balance of $3.47 million.
Moran is facing off against Fourth District Republican Rep. Todd Tiahrt for the Senate seat being vacated by Sam Brownback.
Moran’s campaign reported to have received almost $180,000 more than Tiahrt in the third quarter.
“The results demonstrate another decisive victory for Jerry Moran in the race for U.S. Senate,” Aaron Trost, Moran campaign manager, said in a release. “Once again, Jerry outraised Congressman Tiahrt by a large margin and is nearing $3.5 million cash on hand. This strong fundraising report, coupled with Jerry’s wide lead in the polls and key endorsements, make Jerry the clear frontrunner in this race and give his campaign unshakeable momentum in the months ahead.”
In the First Congressional District, Sen. Jim Barnett, R-Emporia, reportedly raised a total of $105,490 in the third reporting quarter. Barnett said he has now raised a total of $365,387. Barnett’s second quarter reports show he personally donated $100,000 to his campaign.
“I continue to be amazed by the outpouring of support that my campaign for Congress has received,” Barnett said in a release. “I am hearing a lot of concerns from Kansans about the direction of Washington. There is a tremendous need for some old-fashioned common sense in Congress.”
Sen. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler, is also campaigning for the First Congressional District and reported to have raised a total of $181,000 in the third quarter, creating a total of $420,000 raised since November 2008.
Huelskamp reported to have more than $378,000 cash on hand.
“Unlike some folks, I am not independently wealthy, so I can’t write myself a fat check to artificially pump up my numbers,” said Huelskamp in a release. “My fundraising success is the result of a lot of hard work and elbow grease...These numbers show we’re taking this race seriously.”
Sen. Dick Kelsey, R-Goddard, and candidate for the Fourth Congressional District, reported to have more than $60,000 cash on hand at the close of the third quarter. Kelsey’s campaign said the fundraising had “opened a lead among Republicans” campaigning for the House seat.
"At this early stage of the race, our campaign has broad-based support and is on a firm foundation for growth," Kelsey said in a release. "Our message of less government and more Kansas values in Washington is resonating with ordinary folks across the Fourth District.”
