Kansas Liberty: 02 September 2009

Lightner: Throwing stones at Moore not enough. 'We must have the courage to propose solutions for America’s problems.'

Former Rep. Patricia Lightner entering Third District race

Patricia Lightner, a conservative Republican and former state representative, is campaigning for a position in the Third Congressional District, and has formally launched a campaign web site.

The seat is held by Rep. Dennis Moore, a Democrat, who has been under public scrutiny lately for what critics say is his lack of accountability and availability to his constituents.

Lightner said she was motivated to enter the race out of a desire to promote liberty in individualism, freedom of economic choice and the right to life. Lightner said these rights have been compromised by the Democratic majority in Washington, including Moore.

Lightner said she would bring a new strategy to the table to defeat Moore by launching a door-to-door campaign so she can personally discuss her ideas on how to fix the nation’s problems.

“We can not just throw stones at Moore and expect to win,” she said in a campaign advertisement. “We must have the courage to propose solutions for America’s problems.”

Lightner will be hosting a “Meet and Greet” Thursday, Sept. 3, at Toad’s Pub & Perk in Overland Park from 5 - 6:30 pm.

“People not only want to know who I am, but why I'm running," said Lightner in a news release.  "They want to look me in the eye and ask me questions about my background and my record.  They want to ask me what I'm going to do about the loss of liberty they see everyday.”

According to the Federal Election Commission, Lightner joins three other Republicans in the campaign — Sgt. Daniel Gilyeat, Thomas Scherer and John Rysavy.

Moore will be seeking his seventh term. He defeated conservative Republican Nick Jordan in 2008, gaining 56 percent of the vote.
